DREAM ISLAND

Art Lab Gnesta, Gnesta, Sweden

& Konstfack, Telefonplan, Sweden, 2019

Think the echo of a sun soaked day dream, a realm where the subconscious and irrational rule. This is Dream Island, the event and publication.

Dream Island is the sixth edition of "Studies in Curating Art", the scholarly publication series about curating, started in 2014 and produced by the Department of Culture and Aesthetics at Stockholm University.

Dream Island, the publication launch event, took place at Art Lab Gnesta and included artwork by Linnéa Gad, Salad Hilowle, Igor Blomberg Tranæus, and a performance by Kallio Manninen.

Dream Island, it can be anything you want it to be. From isolation to refuge and recreation, islands are alive with mixed meanings. Similarly, dreams are rife with multiple connotations, think the dark content of a terrifying nightmare or the glittery echo of a sun soaked day dream. Both invoke a realm where societal order is absent, where the subconscious and the irrational run free. Freedom or chaos? Whatever the meanings or connotations, Dream Island is a place to which we can all belong.

Dream Island is edited by Daria Sol Andrews, Lauren Johnson, Sofia Jonsson & Essi Vesala. With contributions from Daria Sol Andrews, Ana Victoria Bruno, Linnéa Gad, Viola Gad, Salad Hilowle, Erin Honeycutt, Lauren Johnson, Sofia Jonsson, Jari Kallio, Jaakko Pallasvuo, Kultivator, Meryem Saadi, Nadia Tehran, Igor Blomberg Tranæus, Essi Vesala, and Elin Már Øyen Vister.
